UNWTO

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible Tourism.

1984 Skål International is Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since 1984.

2002 Skål International is a supporter of the UNWTO ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism-Eliminating Poverty Initiative) launched in 2002.

2009 A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Skål International and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) was signed on 7th February 2009.

2014 On 21st of July 2014 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Skål International and the UNWTO was signed.

2015 On 29th September 2015, Skål International signed and adopted the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics in Tourism, a comprehensive set of principles designed to guide key-players in Tourism development. 

UNEP  

The UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

PATA

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is a Not-For-Profit membership association founded in 1951 that acts as a catalyst for the responsible development of Travel and Tourism to, from and within the Asia Pacific region.

On 22nd June 2018, The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Skål International announced a new organisational partnership, recognising the importance of promoting the responsible development of Travel and Tourism in the Asia Pacific region.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by PATA CEO, Dr. Mario Hardy, and Skål International CEO, Daniela Otero, during the 47th Skål Asia Congress in Macao, China.

The agreement commits the two organizations to share knowledge through research and publications, to reciprocate in event participation, to support mutually agreed advocacy positions, and to enhance access for the benefit of members of both organizations.

The Association provides aligned advocacy, insightful research and innovative events to its member organisations, comprising 98 government, state and city Tourism bodies, 19 International airlines and airports, 91 hospitality organisations and 70 educational institutions, as well as over a hundred young Tourism Professional (YTP) members across the world.

The PATA network also embraces the grassroots activism our 36 Chapters and 20 Student Chapters across the world. Thousands of Travel Professionals belong to the 36 local PATA chapters worldwide, while hundreds of students are members of the 20 PATA student chapters globally.

PATA and Skål International are very similar in many regards. Like PATA, Skål International has a long-storied history having been founded in 1934 and through the years, its members have fostered a great spirit of friendship and comradery.


They are also committed to the development of young Tourism professionals and students through Young Skål. This partnership helps align both our missions in developing a responsible Tourism industry and I look forward to working to with them towards this goal.

IIPT

The International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) is a Not-For-Profit organization dedicated to fostering and facilitating Tourism initiatives which contribute to International understanding and cooperation, an improved quality of environment, the preservation of heritage, and through these initiatives, helping to bring about a peaceful and sustainable world.

In January 2016, Louis D’Amore, Founder and President of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT) and Nigel Pilkington, 2016 President of Skål International, announced the launch of a joint IIPT - Skål International Ambassador for Peace Campaign.

IIPT and Skål International have been cooperating since 1994. Skål International is proud to be associated with IIPT and is fully supportive of their credo of peaceful travel.

Both organizations, recognizing that Tourism can be a vital force in nurturing a peaceful world, have come together as partners for a series of projects the first and foremost of which is the IIPT -  Skål Peace Cities, Towns and Villages, project launched in 2013 with the aim of promoting peace from the village, town and city on up to the nation state.

The Code

The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism (The Code) is an industry-driven initiative with the mission to provide awareness, tools and support to the Tourism industry to prevent the sexual exploitation of children in contexts related to Travel and Tourism.

Skål International has been a Member of the Board of The Code since 2008.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Skål International and The Code was signed on 9th March 2018.

ECPAT

ECPAT International is a worldwide network of organizations working to end the sexual exploitation of children. They work at all levels, supporting shelters for survivors, training and supporting law enforcement, influencing governments and conducting a wide range of research. 

Skål International supports ECPAT International since 2005.

ICPT

The International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) is a grassroots Travel & Tourism coalition of destinations and stakeholders.

ICTP focuses on the importance of the interaction of physical, cultural and social environments, the traveller’s responsibility and the need for active community participation in Ecotourism.

Skål International supports The International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) since 2013

ICTP is present in countries and regions where Skål International is not established today. We see great development opportunities for creating new clubs, especially in Africa, to help countries to develop their international Tourism.

Skål International recognises and accepts responsibility to operate in such a way as to continuously decrease the impact of its activities on the environment, to provide benefits to the communities which host these activities, and to ensure the well-being of local societies and the sustainability of destinations so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Sustainable Travel International 

Sustainable Travel International is a charitable Non-Profit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of Travel and Tourism as a force for good by building partnerships, sharing knowledge and designing tools that make Tourism more beneficial for everyone.

Through 10in10, Sustainable Travel International is convening a global consortium of like-minded Travel and Tourism leaders’ destinations and companies who are also committed to the social, environmental and economic well-being of communities globally.

Skål International and Sustainable Travel International (STI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 26th March 2015.

As part of the MoU, Skål International has endorsed the campaign 10 MILLION BETTER, aimed at protecting the resources on which Travel and Tourism depends.

UFTAA

The United Federation of Travel Agents' Association (UFTAA) is a global federation of Travel Agents Association pioneering leadership in Travel & Tourism Industry headquartered in Monaco.

A Memorandum on Tourism cooperation between Skål International and United Federation of Travel Agents Association (UFTAA) was signed on 28th November 2018.
