On the 7 October 2006 Skål Clubs of Southampton and of the Algarve formally twinned at a special dinner in Southampton's Gran Harbour Hotel. The Twinning was prepared over a period of time between the two clubs Secretaries Brian Chambers from Southampton and Hugo Stumpf from the Algarve. The underlying reason why the two clubs wanted to form closer ties was the new flight link between faro and Southampton airports and the development of "Doing Business among friends". There are business interests and preferred contacts already established between the two clubs. Another reason was the coincidental fact that the President of Southampton Dieter Schlieben was once living in the Algarve were the opened and managed the Hotel da Albufeira and he became a founder member of the newly formed Algarve Skål Club in 1975. The current President of the Algarve Club Jose Veiguinha succeeded Dieter Schlieben at Hotel da Aldeida in the 1970s as general Manager. Jose Veiguinha presented his Skål friend Dieter with a twinning certificate and also with a rather splendid silver replica of an Algarve Chimney Pot, the emblem of the Algarve, which will in future take pride of place amongst the Southampton’s regalia.

Les Skål Clubs de Southampton et Algarve se sont officiellement jumelés durant un déjeuner spécial qui s’est déroulé à l’Hôtel Gran Harbour de Southampton le 7 octobre 2006. Durant plusieurs mois, les Secrétaires des deux Clubs, Brian Chambers de Southampton et Hugo Stumpf d’Algarve, ont travaillé sur la formalisation du jumelage. La raison principale pour laquelle les deux Clubs ont décidé de rapprocher leurs liens a été l’implantation de vols de connexion entre les aéroports de Faro et Southampton et l’intention de «Faire du Business entre Amis». Des opportunités et contacts professionnels se sont déjà produits entre les deux Clubs. Une des autres raisons qui a influencé cela a été la coïncidence que le Président de Southampton, Dieter Schlieben, a vécu durant un certain temps en Algarve, où il a inauguré l’Hôtel da Albufeira et en a été le gérant, et en 1975 il est devenu un membre fondateur du Skål Club d’Algarve. Le Président actuel du Club d’Algarve, Jose Veiguinha, a été le successeur de Dieter Schlieben dans la direction de l’Hôtel da Aldeida en 1970. Jose Veiguinha a remis à son ami Skållègue Dieter un diplôme de jumelage, ainsi qu’une réplique splendide d’une cheminée en argent, emblème typique de l’Algarve, qui dans le futur occupera un lieu d’honneur parmi les trophées de Southampton.
